LeftToRight_Louis-Lecoeur_Abdulla-AjmalAjmal perfumes, the region’s multi award winning fragrance house is proud to launch the “Young Perfumer” talent hunt. The event, the first of its kind in the world, will officially be open for registration from tomorrow the 26th of September 2013. This competition will be open to all individuals from the age of 16 to 21 residing within the United Arab Emirates. Having a life-long association with perfumery products, Ajmal partners with the largest Swiss and privately-owned company in the perfume and flavor business, Firmenich, to initiate this exclusive Talent Hunt concept, in addition the youth focused magazine, Emirates Diaries.

There will be two important stages leading up to the main competition of the Talent hunt. The first stage will be candidate registration and short listing. Ajmal will be putting together extensive road shows that will take place across universities, along with select Ajmal stores and Mall locations across the United Arab Emirates. What will these road shows entail? Ajmal along with Firmenich have devised a three step process to understand the level of perfumery knowledge the candidates have. There will be three tests in total to go through and the short listing of the candidates will be done basis their responses on the test.

The Tests
The Triangle test will showcase three bars of soap, two of them will have the same fragrance and one will be different. The Ladder test which will be step two will showcase one fragrance with different concentration levels. The candidates will need to put them in descending order, the strongest to the weakest. The Blind test which will be the final step where the candidates will be presented with five different ingredients and they will have to identify or describe what they smell.  These tests are devised to understand if the candidates are able to smell, identify and differentiate between different fragrances. From the number of entries that are received, Ajmal & Firmenich teams will shortlist the best 20 candidates.

The second stage will be the training and Finals. The 20 short-listed candidates will be given a formal training of perfumery both Theoretical and Practical to prepare for the Final.

The Final
Ajmal-TeamThe Jury panel, consisting of Ajmal and Firmenich perfumers would be selecting the top five fragrances from the list of 20 creations made by the 20 finalists. The selection of the top five would be primarily done on the fragrances the students create while their presentation technique and aptitude to the final competition would be also evaluated.

The Title winner of Ajmal “Young Perfumer” 2013 will get the opportunity to work with Ajmal Perfumes & Firmenich team, on project basis, to create the next ‘youth fragrance’ by Ajmal.
