CPL Aromas, a leading global fragrance house, has announced the launch of AromaHydro™, a breakthrough technology designed to reshape fine fragrance formulation by replacing traditional alcohol-based solvents with water wherever possible.
AromaHydro™ is a water-based, alcohol-free concentrated formulation that can be diluted with water to create a ready-to-use fine fragrance. By eliminating alcohol, the technology delivers improved skin feel, enhanced safety, and measurable sustainability benefits, while enabling new possibilities in fragrance delivery.
“At CPL Aromas, innovation is driven by performance, creativity, and sustainability,” said Michael White, Global R&D Director at CPL Aromas. “AromaHydro™ represents a fundamental shift in fragrance formulation. It is a smarter, more adaptable technology that meets modern consumer expectations while delivering long-lasting performance and excellent skin comfort.”
Removing alcohol from the formulation significantly reduces environmental impact while streamlining production and logistics. Traditional ethanol-based fragrances can require up to 1,000 litres of water to produce a single litre of ethanol — a resource-intensive process AromaHydro™ avoids entirely. In addition, the absence of alcohol reduces regulatory, labelling, storage, and transportation complexities, creating a more efficient supply chain.
The technology also allows perfumers to minimise the use of solubilisers, addressing common sensory issues such as stickiness or heaviness. The result is a cleaner, lighter application that hydrates the skin while supporting longer-lasting fragrance performance.
Currently patent pending, AromaHydro™ underscores CPL Aromas’ commitment to proprietary innovation. The launch aligns with the company’s Benefits Platform, which focuses on performance-driven solutions that respond to evolving consumer needs while embedding sustainability at the core of product development. The technology supports clean fragrance creation, responsible sourcing, and contemporary formulation standards without compromising creative freedom or quality.
“With AromaHydro™, we are offering our customers a future-facing fragrance solution — cleaner, safer and more versatile — while maintaining the creative and performance standards our industry expects,” added White.
