Düllberg Konzentra: Three Generations of Perfumery
Christian Düllberg, Owner of Düllberg Konzentra, shares how his family’s legacy blends heritage, creativity and emotion to craft fragrances that endure
In this exclusive interview with ParfumPlus Magazine, Christian Düllberg explores how three generations have shaped Düllberg Konzentra. Each fragrance reflects a delicate balance of tradition, innovation, and artistry, connecting people and memories across the globe.
ParfumPlus : Düllberg Konzentra has crafted exceptional fragrances for over 90 years. What inspired the founders, and how has their vision evolved?
Christian Düllberg: Our story begins in post-war Hamburg, when my grandfather, Hermann Düllberg, founded the company and later partnered with Konzentra Hubert Timm, established in 1933. This partnership created the name Düllberg Konzentra, which we carry to this day.
When my grandfather passed away, my father, Manfred Düllberg, had just completed perfumery training in France. At only 22, he assumed responsibility for a small, traditional company. Through hard work, travel and customer relationships, especially in Eastern Europe, he transformed it into a dynamic, innovative fragrance house.
Following in his footsteps, I combined business studies with perfumery training at ISIPCA in Versailles, giving me a dual perspective on both the creative and commercial sides of the business. Over three generations, our vision has evolved, but the essence remains: crafting fragrances with passion, precision, and respect for nature, while remaining an independent family company.
PP : As a family-run, multi-generation business, how do your values of independence and collaboration guide decision-making today?
CD : As the third generation, I feel a strong responsibility to uphold the values defining us: Independent, Inspiring, and In Partnership. Independence means financing growth internally, without reliance on banks, so we can make long-term decisions with integrity. Inspiring reflects our role as partners: helping customers create products that are distinctive, attractive and successful. In Partnership defines how we work with clients, at eye level, with trust and closeness. These values are lived practices, not abstract principles, and they provide agility, creativity, and resilience, the foundation for relationships that have carried us through generations.
PP : Your fragrances serve cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, food, and chemical industries. Can you describe the process of creating a signature scent?
CD : Creating a fragrance is about combining inspiration with responsibility. We start by understanding the emotion a fragrance should evoke, the function it should serve, and the product it will live in. Perfumers and evaluators translate this vision into olfactory form, blending high-quality raw materials, natural essential oils, and innovative molecules, testing each creation for stability, safety, and performance.
Our pharmaceutical discipline ensures precision, cleanliness and documentation beyond industry norms, benefiting all our products. Nature is our foundation. As a family company, we think in generations, not quarters and sustainability is central. Our new sustainable building in Hamburg, with solar panels and modern energy standards, embodies this philosophy.
PP : With centres in Hamburg, Dubai, and Jakarta, how do you maintain global quality while staying close to your raw materials?
CD : Quality is non-negotiable. Our pharmaceutical discipline runs through every part of the company, from creation to production to customer care. Unified systems guarantee precision, traceability and reliability everywhere. Dubai connects us to the GCC, allowing quick responses and direct dialogue with customers, especially for oud or amber. Jakarta keeps us close to Asian raw materials and suppliers. Hamburg, our headquarters, combines German engineering, sustainability and innovation. This balance of global quality and local closeness earns our customers’ trust.
PP : 2025 has been a year of innovations and milestones. Which achievements stand out as defining for Düllberg Konzentra?
CD : 2025 marked growth and change, especially in Dubai. Our presence there spans more than 15 years, from our first Mainland branch in 2007, to JAFZA, and since 2018 in DMCC. Each step brought us closer to customers and expanded capabilities. Last year, we moved into a larger office, built a strong, diverse team, and fostered a culture that is creative and solution-oriented. We are also preparing a new Creative and Analytics Centre in Dubai, bringing us even closer to GCC customers. In Hamburg, we invested in a sustainable building with better facilities. For me, innovation is not only technology, but also creating workplaces where people feel valued.
PP : Technology and digitalisation have transformed production and quality management. How do you ensure innovation complements the company’s heritage?
CD : Innovation is part of our heritage. Düllberg Konzentra was among the first in our industry to embrace new technologies. In the 1980s, we introduced barcode-based batch traceability, and in the 2000s, we automated production, eliminating errors, increasing precision and setting industry standards. Today, we are digitising development, supported by AI, to become faster and more precise. Technology enhances efficiency but never replaces the human side of perfumery. The balance of innovation and artistry keeps our tradition of quality alive in a digital world.
PP : Looking ahead to 2026 and new markets, how will you adapt your products and approach to regional preferences?
CD : 2026 will focus on deepening regional engagement, particularly in the GCC. Dubai is our growth platform, connecting Europe, Asia and Africa. Our goal is faster, tailored solutions, enabling fragrance development and sampling within days. The next step is expanding the Dubai hub to combine creative development and analytics, creating a true Creative & Analytics Centre. Our diverse team mirrors the city: German precision meets Arab customer orientation, reflecting our values of Independent, Inspiring, and In Partnership.
PP : Leadership and culture are central to your success. How do you inspire your teams to uphold creativity, quality, and innovation?
CD : Leadership begins with trust and respect. We give people freedom to explore creativity while setting standards for quality and responsibility. This balance allows ownership, personal growth, and excellence. Culture is lived daily, through investing in facilities in Hamburg, creating inspiring Dubai workspaces, and celebrating achievements like ‘team member of the month.’ I see myself as a sparring partner, encouraging dialogue across departments and generations. This openness, paired with our core values, drives creativity and innovation.
PP : As Düllberg Konzentra enters its next chapter, what excites you most about the future of the company and its growth?
CD : Building bridges between tradition and the future, Europe, GCC, Asia, and the art of perfumery and science. Independence allows us to invest in creativity, sustainability, and long-lasting partnerships. The energy in Dubai, innovation in Hamburg, and access to raw materials in Jakarta give us a unique global position. I see Düllberg Konzentra becoming a trusted perfume house worldwide, authentic in creation, masterful in quality, and close to customers. Continuing my grandfather’s and father’s legacy gives me confidence and excitement every day.
PP : What message would you like to share with ParfumPlus readers?
CD : Fragrance is more than just a product; it is emotion, memory, and culture. For me, it is a universal language that connects people across borders. At Düllberg Konzentra, we are proud to contribute to this language with the craftsmanship of a family company and the reach of a global partner.
To our friends and customers in the GCC: thank you for your trust and inspiration. This region has a unique fragrance culture that we deeply respect, and we are excited to continue building bridges between your traditions and our expertise. My message is simple: let us keep creating together. With creativity, quality, and partnership, we can shape fragrances that not only make products successful but also touch people’s lives. That is what inspires me every day.
