The first Asian fine fragrance perfumer in the industry, Loc Dong believes in two types of creativity: one that is born of dreams and another that is the resolve to persevere. His olfactory education
Loc’s olfactory education began in Saigon at the age of six. “Growing up with my grandpa,” says Loc, “is a big part of who I am today.” Loc’s grandfather taught him to harvest and sort plants by their smell, as Loc assisted him in preparing remedies for the villagers. Loc’s tropical training in raw materials has formed the working set of scent references alive in his fragrances today.
His early experiences providing wellbeing for others is the foundation for the joy he derives from his work as a perfumer. As a perfumer, Loc is known for his innovative approach to synthetics. The science of the artificial may seem to contrast with his childhood in the lush tropics of Vietnam, and Loc finds inspiration in the energy created in exactly this juxtaposition. His bright, colourful perfumes bring a sense of exotic adventure to the fine fragrance market and delight to the people who buy them. Among his blockbuster successes are Euphoria Calvin Klein, Giorgio Armani’s Acqua di Gioia, and Halle Berry’s Halle.
