Christian Provenzano is one of the world's leading perfumers and Global Director of Perfumery at CPL Aromas. He has created many highly distinctive fragrances for some of the most famous brands in the world. Christian's expertise lies in the development of fine fragrances where he has developed an instinct for knowing what the consumer looks for in a fragrance whilst adding his own unique brand of innovation.
Born in 1953, in Casablanca, Morocco to Italian parents, Christian left his native country at the age of 17 to embark on a European adventure. In his early years he developed a love for cooking, many of his friends and colleagues who have been fortunate enough to sample his cuisine, believe that had Christian not become a perfumer, he would surely have had a career as a master chef. Through his cooking Christian became familiar with so many of the aromatic herbs and spices which have proved important in his career as a Master Perfumer.
Christian is at heart an artist with a love and skill for playing music which he demonstrated to many crowds whilst in a band throughout the 70's and 80's. In 1971, his European adventure took him to Amsterdam where he joined the Dutch firm Maschmeijer Aromatics as a laboratory technician. It did not take long for the company, and Christian himself, to discover that he had a highly developed sense of smell which prompted him to join the Naarden perfumery school in Holland. After studying, Christian returned to Maschmeijer as a trainee Perfumer and was able to unleash his creations to the outside world.
In 1974, Christian sought a change of scenery and decided to move to England after applying successfully to join Zimmer-man & Hobbs in Milton Keynes as a Perfumer. After 8 years, he moved to take a position at Fritsche Dodge & Olcott (FDO UK). During his time at FDO Christian developed a growing reputation as one of the industry's most exciting and innovative perfumers.
Christian was recruited by CPL Aromas in 1989 to join as Senior Perfumer. The move enabled Christian to develop contacts with important new customers where he has become, not only an outstanding creative talent but also, a highly valuable ambassador for the company demonstrating his unique and warm personality that customers and colleagues alike have become so fond of. Whilst at CPL Aromas Christian has created fine fragrances for an impressive list of brands including Agent Provocateur, Jasper, Conran, Clive Christian, Jo Malone, Penhaligons, Illamasqua, Yardley, Boadicea the Victorious, By Kilian and most recently Anna Sui.
Christian has an undisputed reputation for creating successful and original compositions. He now resides in Dubai at CPL's purpose built creative facility and since his move to the Middle East has developed an expertise for the raw materials unique to this market which in recent years have become popular throughout the world. He is undoubtedly the world's leading creative perfumer when it comes to Oriental / Arabic fragrances and has created a host of prestigious fragrances for companies such as Arabian Oud, Ajmal, Rasasi, Swiss Arabian and others who recognise Christian's skill in this highly specialised sector of the market. In 2017, Christian launched his own fragrance collection called CP Parfums. CP's Patchouli Noir was awarded The Best Niche fragrance 2018' during the Pure Beauty Awards 2018.
Today, as Global Director of Perfumery, Christian is responsible for the team of 30+ global perfumers located within various CPL creative centres in the UK, France, Germany, Spain, Dubai, Hong Kong, Colombia and USA. Christian loves to travel and is able to share his knowledge and experience with CPL's team of perfumers who look to him for inspiration as they develop their own careers and style of creation.
