Diptyque – Eau De Parfum Collection

A voyage to Haiphong and the port of Do Son influenced the creation of this scent.

To escape the humidity of the climate, Yves Coueslant’s father built a pagoda on the banks of the Bay of Along, where the trade winds stimulated the scent of the surrounding flowers. A tribute to the tuberose flowers offered in the temples by his mother, the eau de toilette refreshes these bewitching scents with a rustic, fruity tone.

The even more sensual eau de parfum is an invitation to dive into the heart of the flower, to take in its creamy, heady and hypnotic character. The fragrance is complemented by the subtle powder of jasmine and orange blossom.

Double-sided like vanilla, sometimes fresh and diaphanous, sometimes sombre and almost syrupy… Eau Duelle pays homage to the little black pod that, setting off from Central America, travelled all the spice routes and conquered every palate, exalting its complex facets with notes gleaned from magical stops along the way.

The eau de toilette adorns Bourbon vanilla in cool spices and a subtly smoky base with a predominance of black tea and frankincense. In the eau de parfum, Bourbon vanilla paired with a pod infusion is expressed with even more richness and depth. A highly contrasting perfume, underlined by the amber animality of cistus and the warmth of 1ambroxan.

While cutting black currants for her jam and roses for her bouquets, Dido Merwin, a friend of the company, discovered the unexpected osmosis between the sharp crispness of blackcurrant and the generous fruitiness of old-fashioned roses. The fragrance combines blackcurrant leaves, with the scent of Bulgarian rose, the distinguished Queen of the flowers. This accord, created by crumpling rose petals and blackcurrant leaves, gives the scent a unique quality.

The eau de parfum prolongs the fantasy of the lush, green English garden where this fragrance was conceived. It evokes a vision of a leisurely stroll amongst the flowers, immersing oneself with the scent of the Damask rose petals, mossy yet tangy, combined with the bitter notes of the blackcurrant leaves.

Capturing the Greek holiday memories of Yves Coueslant and Desmond Knox-Leet, two founders of diptyque, the scent recalls the wild fig orchards they passed through to reach the sea. In Greek, Philosykos means “friend of the fig tree”.

With a fresher hook, the eau de parfum lessens the milky sap and fruity notes and intensifies the almost resinous ardour of the accord. Warmed till white-hot by a mist of cedar in the midday sun, the fragrance reveals its woody, purebred aspect.

Drawn from the touching wellspring of Yves Coueslant’s childhood memories in Indochina, Tam Dao evokes the sacred mountain forest where his family used to flee the muggy heat of the city… The forest of Goan sandalwood, whose uprooted trunks were transported by elephants and which was burned in the temples…

In the eau de toilette, the sacred wood’s velvety, milky fragrance is illuminated by the freshness of rosewood, underpinned by the dry finesse of Texan cedar. The eau de parfum offers a more sensual interpretation, facetted in the top notes by the citrus and spicy effects of a sweet lime, coriander and ginger accord, revealing the depth of woody and amber notes. Sandalwood par excellence.

For its first Oriental woody fragrance, diptyque draws its inspiration from Yves Coueslant’s memories of the journeys he took on the steamboats that travelled from Marseilles to Saigon. Volutes is an olfactory interpretation of the scents, people and landscapes he experienced during his voyages. The notes for the fragrance were influenced by elements like the boat’s labyrinth of waxed corridors and wood-panelled lounges as well as the aroma of the “Khedive” Egyptian cigarettes smoked by the elegant ladies on board.

Daring to use a distinguished note of tobacco, rarely used in perfumery, diptyque softened the leathery smoky scent of Egyptian cigarettes with an Amsterdamer accord combined with accents of dried fruit and honey.

The richer and more contrasting eau de parfum tells a story full of Oriental sensuality. The iris is accentuated, giving it a seductive elegance, combined with a delicately leathery aspect that echoes the styrax.

Available at the Diptyque store, The Dubai Mall as a 75 ml EDP.
