Ex-Idolo Perfumes is a new London based niche perfume house established by Matthew Zhuk. Released in April 2013, Thirty-three is the brand’s debut fragrance and is so named because it features an Oud which was distilled in 1980 and aged for thirty-three years before making its way into a perfume. It also boasts of wild harvested Chinese Oud oil which apparently has not been used in any other modern perfume.

Thirty-three is a fragrance crafted from certain special ingredients. The soul of the fragrance is built around a vintage Oud – distilled in 1980 and aged until its release in 2013. It is also the only modern perfume to use a significant amount of wild-harvested Chinese Oud oil and natural Chinese Rose oil to build up the perfume’s profile. Contrary to most Ouds however, Thirty-three is a surprisingly soft and velvety fragrance, and genuinely fits in an innovative space in terms of the wider Oud category. Thirty-three is a deep and dark unisex fragrance, with dry and cold facets.

The top notes of the perfume open with the interesting interplay of soft Black Pepper and Candied Mandarin offset by Caoutchouc which is the natural latex harvested from rubber trees. The heart notes contain Chinese White Tea, Chinese Rose, Taif Rose, Orris and Damascus Steel which is an Accord slightly along the lines of Violets or fine Frankincense but doesn’t smell like either. The base notes boast of Rare Vintage Ouds, Aged Patchouli and Heliotropin. Ex Idolo Thirty-Three has overnight longevity and average sillage.
